Tribute to Mr Yeo Thiam Teng

(Director, Kidney Dialysis Foundation; Served from 1997-2011)

At 71 years old, Mr Yeo Thiam Teng, (affectionately known as TT), was still actively involved in the work of the Foundation. He was the Director of Operations, Chairperson of the Patient and Programme Selection and Chief Editor of KDF’s publication; KDF Link.

KDF staff best remembers Mr TT Yeo for his personable and approachable qualities, which touched and won the hearts of many. He exhibited a strong passion and dedication for the cause of the Foundation, even when he was ill. Through his many roles and responsibilities at KDF, Mr Yeo’s kindness and dedication endeared him to many. Mr Yeo will be remembered for his contributions to KDF and more importantly, for how he touched the hearts and lives of the patients and their families.

In Memory of Mr Yeo Thiam Teng:

Mrs Foo Pek Hong (CEO): “TT has been an asset to KDF since the day he volunteered his services in 1997. Both staff and patients have benefited and have grown under his guidance as the Director, Operations in the early years and later as Chairman of the Patient & Program Selection and Review Committee. Through his entire service, his humble demeanour has endeared him to both patients and staff as he devoted his time selflessly to fulfil the mission of KDF for staff and patient. We will miss him.”

Lily Neo (Kreta Ayer Main Office): “I found TT Yeo to be an approachable fatherly figure. He once recommended me a lawyer for my personal matters. Even though he was a director, you don’t feel a barrier talking to him. On occasions when he came to the main office, he did not hesitate to approach us to enquire on how we were getting on and even kept in contact with ex- KDF staff. He was a person who had compassion for the poor. During his illness, although he was visibly tired, his heartbeat remained strong for the needy. He once told me this and it will always remain etched in my heart: “If you happen to make a mistake, learn from it and do not repeat the same mistake.” When he passed away, I felt sadness.”

Sandy Neo (Bishan Dialysis Centre): “He was a very kind person. In the ten years, I’ve known him, he made it a point to attend events and would render help in whatever ways he could. He took the time and effort to bond with staff and would drop by the centre whenever he was nearby. During Chinese New Year, he would bring around fruits and some red packets for distribution to the needy patients.”

Dora Wong (Ghim Moh Dialysis Centre): “Mr Yeo was a friendly and humble person. His passion to do good work was evident. He would sometimes drive to donating organizations to collect (the donated items) and distribute to patients at the KDF centres despite his health problem. He even went personally to get plastic bags for patients to carry the items home. His greatest contributions were his long term sacrifices in terms of time and energy. Whenever I met him, he would return greetings with a broad smile and surprise me with his sense of humor, smile or wave if from a distance.”

Zahara Ibrahim (Resource Development & Communications): “Mr Yeo was always ready to give opinions and advice. As he was involved with other charities, he would occasionally give us tips on the events that we were organizing based on his experiences which were certainly enlightening. He was friendly and kind and gave a grandfatherly vibe. TT was the director closest to the staff. He attended staff functions and get-togethers whenever possible and didn’t give an intimidating director aura, instead, he was just like one of us. TT was with KDF since its early days; so he was part of the team that laid the foundation for KDF resulting in the integrity and good reputation of our organization.”
