Fold a Crane of Love and Hope ~ A Fun and Unforgettable Experience
Fold a Crane of Love and Hope was a six months long project organized by KDF as part of our fund raising project for this year. An event on 20 October 2007 at Bishan Junction 8, Open Atrium, marked the closing for the entire project. The event was graced by Mayor Zainudin Nordin of the Central Singapore Community Development Centre.
The closing ceremony was held in the late morning. There was a crane challenge held for the public to participate during the ceremony. One participant managed to fold six cranes in five minutes making her, the fastest crane folding person in the process, won herself a IPOD mini, contributed by our sponsors. The program also included an Indian drum performance by the Geylang West Youth Community Centre and Elicia Neo, a six year old violinist who performed two musical pieces during the event. A small exhibition corner was set up to educate the public about the causes and prevention of kidney failure.
To bring more excitement to the ceremony, Mayor Zainudin Nordin and Dr Gordon Ku, our Chairman were invited to reveal an origami crane, measuring at 2 meters by 3 meters making it the biggest origami crane ever folded in Singapore.
KDF was awarded a certificate by Singapore Book of Records for setting the record for the biggest origami crane folded. This meaningful and fun project organized by KDFÿs staff and supported by student volunteers, sponsorships and outright donation from many corporations and individuals, raised more than 0,000.
Nicholas Quah, the student volunteer-in-charge from Dunman High School said, ´This was a fruitful and unforgettable experience.¡ Throughout the entire three months sales at the shopping malls, the volunteers from various schools showed great leadership skills and social responsibility. This was not just a project to raise funds for our dialysis patients, but also a great and enjoyable experience KDF had in communicating with the public.
Hereÿs a BIG thank you to all our generous sponsors and donors from Isetan Foundation, Merck Sharp & Dolme (I.A) Corp, Singapore Totalisator Board, ComfortDelgro and Cabby Care Charity Group, CapitaLand Retail, Junction 8, and all individuals who have contributed towards this good cause.
GOING... GOING... GONE - KDF AND THE LUNAR SEVENTH MONTH
The Seventh Month of the Chinese calendar, when the Hungry Ghosts Festival is observed, has typically been a busy period for the Kidney Dialysis Foundation (KDF) since 2000. During this period, KDF raises funds for its needy kidney patients mainly by auctioning charity icons at various auction and temple dinners, doing donation box collections, and being on the receiving end of donations from various Chinese community groups.
This year, the KDF Lunar Seventh Month icon is "Si Fang Na Cai", a specially designed icon to welcome good fortune from all directions. The icon, a rotating cauldron, etched with waves, captures wealth and prosperity from all directions for its owner. Indeed, KDF was fortunate to be able to raise over 0,000 from the 61 auction and temple dinners attended during this month. All successful bidders also received a "Venhonia – Year of the Pig" medallion coin sponsored by Golden Watch Gold and Jewellery.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the organising committees of these dinners, the successful bidders of the KDF icons, all donors, volunteers and supporters for their support towards KDF during this period.
Missed out on being the top bidder at these auctions? You can still purchase the icon at 8. For more details, please contact Ms Grace Tan at grace.tan@kdf.org.sg or 6225 3133 ext 26.
