A LITTLE EDUCATION AND AN ADVENTURE

The Renal Friends organized a Patient Education Seminar cum Social Outing on 2 September 2007. Patients and family members from the People’s Dialysis Centre, Singapore General Hospital and National University Hospital were invited to join KDF’s patients in this event.
Ms Christina Teh, occupational therapist from the Society of Moral Charities-Moral Therapy Hub was invited to give a talk on “Managing Fatigue – How to conserve energy” at Toa Payoh Central Community Centre. Ms Teh gave tips on how to conserve energy when doing the daily house work and also led the audience to do simple stretching exercises before the outing.
After seminar, the participants adjourned for a sumptuous bento dinner that was followed by a trip to the Singapore Night Safari. The participants were divided into three groups and led by volunteers in the outing. They enjoyed the antics and incredible abilities of the performing animals such as owls, pythons, raccoons and others.
Next, the participants hopped on board for a 45 minutes tram ride into the Night Safari. The adventure began at the Nepalese River Valley where they saw animals such as the wolf, rhino, and sambar deer. They also sighted the giraffe, spotted hyena, bongo, hippo, bearded pig and Malayan tiger.
An exhilarating tribal performance with dances, blowpipe demonstrations, fire eating displays, and a stop by the retail outlet for a souvenir completed the amazing night out at the Night Safari.
We would like to thank Roche Singapore who kindly sponsored the seminar and the organising committee of the event
