Taking Learning Out of the Classroom
Organiser
KDF
Date
April to May 2012

Since 1999, KDF has been accredited for the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Advanced Diploma in Nephro-Urology Course. Each year, small groups of students from the Polytechnic are attached to KDF Dialysis Centres for field visits and clinical placements. During these visits, the students were given a brief introduction of the Foundation and are oriented to the dialysis centres which they will be attached to for their clinical placements.

A total of 27 students had their one-week clinical attachment from April to May 2012 at either the Bishan or SWWT Centre. When interviewed, one of the students thinks that her stay at KDF has been meaningful. She feels that she was given wide learning exposure and is thankful for the opportunity to learn from the trained staff as they are always positive and able to motivate and sharing her experiences with the students.

Other students also added that the patients and staff are friendly, making them feel at home even on their first day. Despite the short stint at KDF, the students were able to better understand the work at KDF; and this gave them the opportunity to learn the scope of work and programmes offered by KDF.

Through this partnership with NYP, KDF hopes to able to create learning opportunities for more Advanced Diploma nursing students.
