COVID-19 Support

To manage the growing risk of COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health has provided directives to enforce all patients and their designated caregivers to undertake COVID-19 testing from 22 August 2021 onwards. Only patients and caregivers with a negative result can enter their respective centres.

All patients and caregivers must perform Antigen Rapid Test (ART) swabs every 72 hours (or three days) on non-dialysis days. Schedule frequency as follows:

  • Patients and Caregivers on Monday / Wednesday / Friday dialysis schedule must perform their self-administered ART testing on Sunday and Thursday
  • Patients and Caregivers on Tuesday / Thursday / Saturday dialysis schedule must perform their self-administered ART testing on Monday and Friday

All patients and caregivers must produce negative ART test results within 72 hours before entering KDF centres. Patients and caregivers declare their results with

  1. Photographic evidence and
  2. The physical test kit

All patients and caregivers who tested positive on ART or has invalid results twice will be directed to the Swab-and-Send-Home (SASH) clinic for a confirmatory Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test. All patients and caregivers MUST INFORM the dialysis centre immediately should they be tested positive or have invalid test results twice.

All patients and caregivers with positive ART results or who have invalid test results twice MUST NOT TURN UP at the Centre. Patient / Caregiver must go for a confirmatory PCR swab at the nearest SASH clinic.

Patient Support

Throughout their time here, KDF ensures that our patients are able to receive support in various forms, including support for their mental wellbeing. Our patient support group, Renal Friends, was initiated in 1997 by KDF’s Medical Director, Dr Lina Choong, to cater to the emotional and psychological needs of dialysis patients and their families.

Their activities include:

  • Befriending kidney patients in distress
  • Organising social activities
  • Organising educational talks and seminars

With these activities, the group aims to enhance interaction, mutual sharing and support, and increase knowledge and awareness of kidney disease amongst patients and their families.

Over the past few years, Renal Friends has organised trips to the following places of interest:

  • Peranakan Museum (2015)
  • Singapore Flyer (2016)
  • Singapore River Cruise (2017)
  • Johor Bahru (2017)
  • Singapore Zoological Gardens (2017)
  • Qian Hu Fish Farm (2018)
  • S.E.A. Aquarium (2018)
